Red-Line Editing Services provides two types of reviewing services

Manuscript Critiques

Manuscript critiques are designed to give you feedback about your manuscript prior to submitting your work for consideration by submission editors at literary agencies or publishing companies.  Our editors will review your submission package and give you pointers to improve your work to enhance your chances of catching that submission editor’s eye. This particular service is geared toward short stories, novellas, and novels having an intended market for young adult to adult audiences. If your manuscript is for younger audiences, please go to our Children's Division.

A Critique services includes an analysis of the following:

1.    Query Letter

2.    Synopsis

3.    Manuscript

What our editors will look for:

1.    How well your opening lines grab the reviewer (the all important ‘hook’)

2.    Grammar/Style issues to get you noticed in a positive way

3.    Possible character or plot development issues

4.    Whether the title is exciting and appropriate

5.    Required elements of each document

6.    Formatting versus industry standards

7.    Scene/Dialogue evaluation

8.    Punctuation

9.    Spelling

We base our rates on the Writer's Market and they fall between the industry low and average rates.

Manuscript Evaluations

Many times authors have more detailed questions that they want feedback on regarding their manuscripts. Red-Line Editing Services created the Manuscript Evaluation Service to address those needs. If you want specific feedback on character development, plot points within your storyline, or you simply want to know what works and what needs more attention, the Manuscript Evaluation may be the service for you.

You submit a list of questions that you want answered that deals with the specifics of your work, not the publishing industry. The editor will then read the entire manuscript, answer each question, and give you that specific feedback you have been looking for. The editor will give you suggestions on how to improve the manuscript regarding those points that concern you. In addition, the editor will give you other helpful hints on other points found during the reviewing of your work that might cause a problem while sitting in front of the submission editor of a publisher or questions that might arise in the reader’s mind.

The Manuscript Evaluation Service is a powerful tool to guide you in the right direction without paying for a Full Editing of your work. Most of the time, authors who have had a hard time placing their work purchase this service; however, it could be purchased prior to shopping the manuscript to avoid many of the common pitfalls.
